Four steps to improve your drawings
It is always ok to erase a segment of your picture and redraw it with different proportions if you feel like it docent look like you wanted it to. And if you repeat this process and things start to look messy around the parts you want to keep, just darken the lines you want to keep, then very lightly erase over the while segment of the picture, it will fade the parts you don’t want to keep and lighten the parts you do to the color they were at before. This is a great way to get your picture the way you wanted it and do it right, getting the already great base for your picture finished and ready for adding color to give it that truly expert feel.
you can always erase and redraw
Next, if you want to color in your picture with multiple shades of the same color but you only have one pencil of that color, you can change the opacity level of your pencil strokes by putting different amounts of force on your pencil when you draw. The more force you put down on your pencil, the more opaque the lines will be, thus, if you put down less force your pencil strokes will be slightly see-through or lighter hue. You can always start light and lightly layer over it till you get to the color you need, to give it a less vivid effect. Or more vivid if thats what you are going for. (This method is one of the most important tips I know, as it can be used in so many different ways)
All of these shades from one pencil
Than using the same method you can convey shadows in a more realistic manner by drawing shadows with a more vivid density with a darker version of the surrounding color, giving the effect that you can still slightly see the object, just slightly visible instead of using regular pencil and making it not visible at all.
you can see the color of the part the shadow covers
Then to give your picture that finishing touch, give certain parts of the illustration lighting effects by going lightly around the edges of that part of the picture with the color the object glows, making it opaque near the object and faded further away. Doing this will allow you to enhance the already vivid color of your art. With that and the previous steps, you have upgraded your already awesome drawing.
the picture looks as if it is glowing!
